On November 22, 2013, Giddings Elementary and the Rotary Club of Giddings held a knighting ceremony as part of the EarlyAct FirstKnight citizenship program.  The program which started at the beginning of this school year focuses on teaching the virtues embodies in the knightly code of chivalry to the students for 10 minutes each school day.  During this six weeks, the students learned about the virtue of Confidence.  At the knighting ceremony, twenty eight K-3 students were recognized for embodying that virtue and were awarded a champion’s medal.  The 3rd graders were knighted by Lady Hannah, one of the Knights of the Guild.

Each six weeks a new virtue will be taught and more champions will be honored.  The next knighting ceremony will occur on January 17, 2014 at 8:00 a.m.  In addition, the Tournament of Champions was rescheduled to spring because of the weather.  The tournament is a spectacular, outdoor event complete with armored knights and live warhorses.  The EarlyAct FirstKnight program is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Giddings at no cost to Giddings Elementary.
