On October 11, 2013, Giddings Elementary and the Rotary Club of Giddings held its first knighting ceremony as part of the EarlyAct FirstKnight citizenship program.  The program which started at the beginning of this school year focuses on teaching the virtues embodies in the knightly code of chivalry to the students for 10 minutes each school day.  The first six weeks, the students learned about the virtue of Tolerance.  At the knighting ceremony, twenty six K-3 students were recognized in the ceremony for embodying that virtue and were awarded a champion’s medal.  The 3rd graders were knighted by Lady Hannah, one of the Knights of the Guild.

Each six weeks a new virtue will be taught and more champions will be honored.  The next knighting ceremony will occur on November 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.  In addition, the Tournament of Champions (previously scheduled in September) was rescheduled to November 5, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.  The tournament is a spectacular, outdoor event complete with armored knights and live warhorses.  The EarlyAct FirstKnight program is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Giddings at no cost to Giddings Elementary.
