Travis T. Sheffield

Travis T. Sheffield was born in Georgetown, Texas on February 3, 1930 . A current resident of Smithville, Travis died on October 17, 2012.  Travis  married  Ella E. Lee on October 5, 1949 in Austin, Texas.

 

Travis was Vice President of American Indemnity Company, American Fire and Indemnity Company, Texas General Indemnity Company and Underwriter at American Indemnity Lloyds all of Galveston.

 

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Smithville and worked with the youth of the First Baptist Church, Texas City.  While there he served on the Finance Committee and served as Trustee of the physical properties of the church before moving to Smithville. Travis was appointed an Admiral in the Texas Navy by Governor Clement. He was a member of the San Antonio Chapter of the American Revolution and held dual membership in the Aaron Burleson Chapter, Smithville. He was one ofthe original members appointed by the Smithville City Council to serve on the Smithville Industrial Development Foundation and served on committees of the Chamber of Commerce. He was an active member of Rotary since 1959 and became a Paul Harris Fellow in January of 1999. Travis served from 1959 – 1973 Rotary Club of Texas City serving as Secretary-treasurer in 1960, 1973 – 1993 Rotary Club of Galveston serving as Treasurer in 1975, 1993 – 2008 Rotary Club of Bastrop serving as Treasurer from 1994-95, 2009- 2012 Rotary Club of Giddings serving as International Service chair in 2009-10 . Other Rotary honors include: President Elect 1999, President 2000-01, Presidential Citation 2001, Assistant Governor 2002- 2006, Governor’s Citation 2005, District New Club Extension Chair 2006-07,  and Distinguished service citation 2006. In 2006 the Rotary Club of Bastrop renamed their scholarship to “The  Travis T Sheffield/ Bastrop Rotary Club Scholarship”.
