Enthusiastic volunteers and proud supporters gathered at the Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval on Saturday December 11 for the official opening of the new Zamboni garage. The Rotary Club of Prince George was prominent among the donors who supported the construction of the Zamboni garage and Bob Hlina shared ribbon cutting honours with Alison Hoskins from Integris Credit Union.

The 400-metre long Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval is a natural ice track speed skating track; it is maintained by the Outdoor Ice Oval Society of Prince George (OIOS of PG) with the support of the City of Prince George. You can visit their website to find out more about the ice oval at http://www.pgoval.ca/.

To celebrate the day OIOS of PG offered free hot chocolate and and photos with Santa and his elves on the Zamboni. The day's proceeds from fees and donations by skaters were given to the Salvation Army.

The Zamboni garage cost about $10,000 in materials, with another $1,000 for insurance. All the labour, except for the pouring of the concrete pad, and installation of the garage door, was done by volunteers.
