The Rotary Club of Temple continues to spotlight our community's outstanding educational system by entertaining members of TISD's Fine Arts Department on March 11.

Our own Dr. Robin Battershell, TISD Superintendent, introduced Catrina Lotspeich, TISD Fine Arts Director, who briefed the attendees on the program as a whole, complete with numbers of student participants in all categories from elementary schools up through Temple High School. The Fine Arts Department of the Temple Independent School District serves students in Music (Band, Choir, and Orchestra), Theatre, Dance, and Visual Arts curricular study areas, offering TEKS-based instruction in Fine Arts in grades K-12 for all students in TISD. After her introductory briefing, we then heard from individual students, representing each of the various dimensions of the Fine Arts Department. Each student related how much the Fine Arts Department had meant to them, personally, and to their educational development. Most of those students acknowledged an intent to continue to pursue their fine arts involvement in college. THS students, whether it be in band, orchestra, choir, theater, dance, or visual arts, continue to excel and garner many honors and awards for their talents. Our community is fortunate to have school leaders who continue to acknowledge and emphasize the educational value of a fine arts curriculum as part of the overall development of our children into responsible, productive citizens.
