The Rotary Club of Flatonia was honored to have a distinguished guest to their meeting on 20 July 2017 at Robert’s Steakhouse.

Rich Kaye, Rotary District 5870 Past Foundation Chairman, shared the history of Polio in the world and how The Rotary Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3, through the support of Rotary clubs around the globe have worked to eradicate this disease.  It will be only the second disease in the world known to mankind that will be eradicated.  “I am very proud to be a Rotarian and especially to be a part of this
project, known as PolioPlus,” commented Mr. Kaye.

Rotary International has been working to eradicate polio for over 30 years, and the goal of ridding the earth of this disease is in sight. Rotary started in 1979 with vaccinations for 6 million children in the Philippines, when polio cases numbered 1000 per day.  Today, Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries where polio remains endemic. There are only 7 cases today.

"Rich is a military veteran, community servant and dedicated Rotarian.”  said Patricia Satterwhite, president of the Rotary Club of Flatonia, “And we were honored to have him share his passion for Rotary and his passion for The Rotary Foundation in efforts to end Polio.”
