Peru Update Part 2

Hola! Part 2 of our international service project update from Arequipa , Peru.
Meet the project team! There are 12 of us working on this dental project in Arequipa and it is quite an international group.
There is the Brazillian duo Izumni and Cassia. Then there is Dr. Roberto (Robert) and Per (Pear) both previous district govenors fron Denmark. Then there is Koji and Hiroshi from Japan. It was Hiroshi´s 64th birthday today so we celebrated by making sure he got a little cake in his face. See picture.
The team is made up of several well accomplished Rotarians both in their professional lives as well as Rotary lives. I feel so unworthy.
Today was a slow day however, we did see some severe cases. There is no municipal water treatment so flouride is non-exsistent in Arequipa. The hardest thing is having to explain to a young child that their permanent teeth are being pulled due to extrordinary tooth decay. The day was emotionaly draining. I think I have developed a technique for calming children down in the dental chair.
Anyway, the tooth decay is bad and most children need extractions. There is not much we can do except fix the dental decay and hope that they will adhere to the cleaning lessons they all recieved from the flouride team.
So long for now.
