And then there was the Fashions in the 60s and 80s
A tag team of Ken Paynter and Tom McEvoy kept us fascinated with fashion for our meeting last Monday.

Although it is possibly true that the ladies were more interested than the men in the actual fashions, some of the story around business development and following trends  over a long period of time held all of our attention for the allotted time.
Ups and Downs of Rotary over the past 20 years
Those of us who have been in Rotary for some time would agree that there have been many changes in what we do and how we do it. However the basic principles have not changed.
Who better to talk about some of these changes than Rob Lloyd of the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek.

Rob was President of his club in 2001-2002 and went on to be the Group One Assistant Governor and then District Governor. He has also been involved as District Trainer for a period of time.

Rob, a plumbing business operator, has given much to Rotary in his years of involvement. Always interesting to listen to, Rob again served our club well with his address.
Good Attendance at first Evening Meeting.

Two firsts for the Rotary Club of Greensborough. Both acknowledged as successful.

The meeting on the 17th of September was the first of a trial period during which a monthly evening meeting will be held at the Greensborough RSL. This first meeting highlighted the need to work on noise matters related to conducting the meeting but in spite of that was a great success.
The other one was the presentation of Certificates to the first two Junior Rotarian of the Month participants from Greensborough College. This programme, which was run in years past, has been reintroduced in conjunction with the College and Joel and Jack have attended four meetings of the Club. They each brought family members for the evening and each spoke briefly about their experience of Rotary.

Special Speaker for the night was Rotarian Peter McKenna who also brought his family for the evening.
Peter talked to the members and guests about the special Vinnies Sleepout project with aim of finding accommodation for homeless people in our area. The meeting was challenged by some staggering statistics in regard to homelessness in our communities.

Community Committee Chair Bill Carter announced that the RCG Board has recently agreed to pledge a contribution of $3000 in the current Rotary Year.

Boots for All
Our guest speaker for our weekly meeting on the 10th of September was Toni Gauchi who gave us a good run down on the community work of Boots for All.

The Sport for All social enterprise exists to create pathways for social and economic inclusion

by offering long-term unemployed and/or otherwise disadvantaged young people

accredited training, paid employment & pre-employment training in Retail & Warehousing.

By increasing their capacity for paid employment and/or accredited & pre-employment training, graduates of the Sport For All training programs will be more socially and economically included because they will have improved their employability capacity and increased their education.

With the support of the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation, more than 5,000 hours of paid employment for 10 young people with barriers to employment will participate in an accredited traineeship & paid employment training program in Retail or Warehousing. By providing the trainees with supervised, individual accredited training and a tailored paid work experience plan over a 12 month period, trainees will increase their capacity for paid employment and/or further accredited training.
