Off to a flyer for the second half
After a short break over Christmas New-Year the Rotary Club of Greensborough has started the year running.

Two Bunnings weekend BBQs.

The sixth of January at Thomastown was the first and not a huge success. It was an extremely hot day and an equipment failure that included a fire in the BBQ created more than acceptable heat and the event was called off at 1.00pm. Full marks to all who participated in trying circumstances.

Sunday the 14th at Mill Park was a much better result. It was one of the busiest days people had experiences and this was reflected in the excellent result. Margaret McPherson reported:

Thought you would be interested in the proceeds from todays BBQ
$1588.20 Profit    $53.55 Donations
Thank you all for your help today, your dedicated and able bodied assistance is much appreciated   . Another successful Rotary fund raiser.

The next scheduled BBQ is Friday the 2nd February at Thomastown.
Memorial Services
Members past and present represented the Rotary Club of Greensborough at two memorial services within two weeks.
Vale Beryl Vickers
Members of the Rotary Club of Greensborough, past and active were among a large number of family and friends in attendance at the Memorial Service held at Living Faith Church in Greensborough.

Beryl was the wife of the late Tom Vickers who was the Charter President of the RCG.

Tom and Beryl had many continuous years of active involvement in the Club and and were both very committed to all kinds of community activities.

Among the Past and present Rotary Members were Bob and Lorraine Manuel, John Mackey, Arthur and Lorna Sandford, Ron Myerscough, George and Beryl Lim and David Ling.

Beryl was a long time member and active participant of the Living Faith Church congregation and this was reflected by the large number of church members present.
Vale Elizabeth Butcher
Elizabeth Butcher passed away with family members present on the 20th January after a lengthy period of a challenging health condition.
Betty was the wife of Laurie Butcher who was a Member of the Rotary Club of Greensborough for many years including serving as Club Secretary for some 10 Years.
Betty was very active in her support of Laurie and of the Club during those years and was loved and respected by all.

Diamond Valley learning Centre - Working Bee
Saturday 13th January was the day for a working bee at DVLC arranged by Community Chair Bill Carter.

It was a great day for a clean up and a handfull of willing workers turned a bit of work into a fun day. The results were encouraging.
Veronica organised lunch and the extra time sharing that made for good fellowship.

Bill Carter wrote:
The working Bee at DVLC was a great success and many thanks to the willing workers, David, Margaret M, Cheryl-Lee, Margaret C, Joy and Veronica.
As by the attached photos you will see that the outside area is now in pristine condition and ready for the Students on their return to studies.
Special thanks to Veronica for the lovely Pizzas that she supplied which allowed us to have some fellowship before departing.
We, as a society, are very lucky in having an organisation such as DVLC, where people not so fortunate as ourselves have a place where they can go to learn and also feel part of the community.

Weekly Meetings recommence.

The first meeting for the second half was a fellowship long lunch at the home of David and Betty Ling in Doreen.

Words from Bill Carter again:
What a better way to start off the Rotary Year than with an informal BBQ.
The food was delicious and the way Betty presented the tables was first class.

The team effort in providing the food exhibited the Rotary Spirit in full.
The group present voted almost unanimously to use the venue and format for regular meetings however Betty's right of veto canned the idea.

So

It's back to All Saints of Monday 29th for resumption of our regular meetings.

Looking forward to a strong second half of the Rotary Year.
