Stage 2 “ Let There Be Light ” – Solar Power for SONAB – Berega Hospital, Tanzania

  • Where located In the “School of Nursing” at Berega Hospital approximately 5 hours west of Dar es Salaam Tanzania, East Africa
  • Background This is the third year of the school’s operation with students attending a three-year Diploma of Nursing course.
  • Aims and Needs There is a chronic need for some form of lighting and for power to run equipment for teacher and student use.
  • This project will help meet this need by providing solar energy sources in the form of desktop lamps, simple power packs to a solar panel.
THE PROJECT Stage 1 District A61’s Project to finance the purchase of demonstration equipment is complete.
Stage 2 aims to finance the purchase of Solar Power Packs to provide lighting for students, teacher preparation, powering
class equipment and lighting of classrooms, dormitories, meals hall and toilets. We hope to provide quality lighting which replaces
the use of costly and harmful kerosene lamps and provide the opportunity to study at night. These packs are available locally
in Morogoro through Barefoot Power. These packs are flexible, robust and come with a warranty.
