We had a good meeting last week with 22 people present including 3 guests, Jenny Flower, Keiron Donegan and Jane McGrath (guest of Steven Briffa).

The guest speaker Lyn Beinat (a past Rotaractor) travelled from Gisborne to deliver a very informative presentation on Home Sustainability.  It is expected that the cost of electricity will increase 10 fold in the next 10 years - that is if your bill is now $500 per quarter then expect it to be $5000 per quarter in 10 years time. - Lyn handed out free Home Sustainability Assessment vouchers to all present, valued at $250  - the government subsidises this at present and Lyn's company donates $10 of this to Shelterbox Australia.

Reports were received from Mark Sefton  - Volunteers needed for the Bunnings BBQ on Sunday 17th October - List will be circulated next week again.

Mark will also circulate a list for members to indicate proposed numbers of guests who will attend the Melbourne Cup Function to be held again at Samson Hill Winery. Details are $55 per person which includes 2 course meal and a glass of wine or champagne on arrival.  This was a very successful day last year organised by Kaye Hoverd with many people indicating that they would attend again this year.  Spread the word among friends, family and business colleagues - get a table together and come and enjoy the Melbourne Cup.

Bill Carter displayed a magnificent piece of woodwork crafted by Bill - a Volvo 'bus' - to be raffled and drawn at the Melbourne Cup function - tickets will be $2 each and each member will be asked to sell (or buy) 15 tickets to make this worthwhile. The second prize will be an Alan Sartori painting generously donated by Irma Sartori .

Martyn delivered a report on the sight, hearing and spinal checks, and mentioned that the Audiology students are keen to include Prep children next year.

Martyn also spoke of the club's involvement in the Relay for Life program to be held next March and invited us all to 'get fit' and start training for our club team.

Graham Trotter reported that Doreen was now at home recovering from  triple bi-pass surgery. and was doing very well, at the same time getting very bored.

Best wishes Doreen for a very speedy recovery.

President Mark is currently on a biking mission, and will miss next week's meeting - hope the weather is kind to you Mark.

David Ling is presently in China - hope to have a report on his journey.

Joy gave a report on the Theatre Night which was reported in the Bulletin and the final profit was $627.00 which is proposed to go to Rotary against Malaria - to purchase treated mosquito nets to save lives of infants and young children in the tropical areas of PNG etc.

Tony Shields invited members and any young person (Rotaract age) to attend an evening at Kew Hotel on Saturday 2nd October and show their support. This was noted in the Bulletin this week.
