These words are written as a result of discussions at our recent AGM, the Board Meeting on Tuesday 11th December and related conversations.

  • If all goes according to current intentions and expectations the advice received from PP Tony Bramley is that there will be a new "Provisional Rotary Club" commencing in Greensborough early in the New Year. This New Club will meet in the evenings.
  • The Rotary Club of Greensborough will continue as a lunchtime club.

For more than a year now we have had ongoing conversations about the fact that some of our members would prefer an evening meeting and there has been suggestion that changing would help us recruit new members.

The current arrangement provides options for the two preferences. Some will choose to remain in the RCG and others will choose to move to the New Club.

The following is an extract from the R I Rules related to starting a new club.

Can a member of a current Rotary club be included on the charter list of a new club?

Yes. The member should let their current club know his or her intent, so that the member’s resignation is completed by the date that the provisional club is admitted to membership. Upon resignation, the member should also request a Confirmation of Former Rotary Club Membership and Good Financial Standing form be signed by the club secretary and club president of the club from which the member is resigning. Submit the completed form to the charter club president
or secretary. A Rotarian cannot be a member of two Rotary clubs at the same time, unless one of the memberships is  honorary.

As the Sponsoring Club the Rotary Club of Greensborough is fully supportive of the New Club in the interest of growing Rotary.

We also need to take some steps to refocus and ensure the same bright and productive future for our Club.

If it is your intention to move to the New Club, or you are interested in the possibilty of doing so, would you please speak with PP Tony as soon as possible and then advise your intention to me or to President Elect, and Acting Secretary, Connie D'Amore so the kind of regrouping can take place. In fact, could I ask that you convey your intention either way so we can go on with planning.

The Board has also discussed the advantages of relocating our lunchtime Club Meetings to the centre of Greensborough and this is being actively investigated. PP Paul Craig who has so kindly facilitated our meetings at the Diamond Valley Baptist Church aware and fully supportive of this decision. We will keep Members posted as information comes to hand.

Thank you for your support.

Yours in Rotary

David
