Resignation of John Mackey

It was with much regret that President Paul accepted PP John Mackey resignation.

John was a Charter Member of our Club.

During the many years of his association with the Rotary Club of Greensbourough John has always exemplified  the values of Rotary "Service above Self"

President Paul thought it appropriate that he share John letter with all members.

On behalf of President Paul and all current and past Members we wish John and Sandra all the best for the furture and thank them for their enormous contribution to our club.

Dear Paul

It was a privilege and honour for me to have been invited to become a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Greensborough back in 1968. At the time I was aware of the high regard of Rotary held by the general community but knew little of its objectives and service goals. I was however very fortunate to have become a member of an almost instantaneously active organization which manifested its motto of “Service Above Self” from the front foot. The Club was born during a period of great state-wide adversity and led the way in bushfire relief. Every member was heavily involved and we were proud to be called Rotarians.

Since then the years have passed all too quickly but I retain fond memories of the past and present members of the Club and in particular, how they use their classifications and personal efforts to foster the objects of Rotary, more specifically the needs of the wider Diamond Valley community. The projects and achievements of the Greensborough Rotary Club over the last forty-five years are matters of which we can also all be proud.

I, through Rotary, became a member of two public hospitals in the area and can note first-hand the continuous involvement of the Club in the provision of personal and collective participation in projects which materially assist the sick, the disadvantaged, aged citizens and young people in the area. Its international activities have also been outstanding.

Time catches with everyone, not least myself. Over the last few years I have been embarrassed by the fact that my contribution to our Club has been limited and becoming more so. Unfortunately it has become difficult to attend evening meetings, social events, fellowship and service activities.

Currently I am in the process of renovating my house at McCrae to make it more age friendly. This will necessitate my personal attendance there on a very regular basis, I might add in more of an overseeing capacity. At my speed this is likely to take some time. Thereafter it is my fond wish to enjoy, with Sandra, the vista of our beautiful bay.

I believe that I cannot, in all honesty, continue to be an inactive member of the Rotary Club of Greensborough. With very deep regret I therefore respectfully request that you accept my resignation. I would however request that I be kept in contact with the Club, its projects and members.

I can say, with all sincerity, that over so many years, a finer bunch of dedicated, sincere and friendly people I have never met.
