Relay for Life 5th & 6th March at Willinda Park Aths Track Greensborough

Well the Relay for Life is just about upon us. I'm know you are all well and truly sick of me reminding the club at every turn, but that is the only way (I know) to keep it in the minds of all our Rotarians. This years commitment to participate is an improvement on last year with a number of our Rotarians participating despite the number of members relaying in other teams (ie Ray Davies, Paul Roast, Connie D'Amore).

In addition to participating and helping to get this event up and running in Diamond Valley fund raising is also an important factor. I admit I have not focused in that area, but rather in getting a team on the track, but Rotarian Bill Carter and past Rotarian Cheryl-Lee Carter have been working hard to raise the bulk of our funds and they should be personally congratulated.

This year a number of our Rotaractors are keen to participate and at the time of writing this article, the fifth one just signed up and I'm told more are coming. I'm reliably informed that they are keen to tackle the wee small hours when most of us want to be tucked up in bed!

I was also told recently by the Cancer Cancel of Victoria that they thought all the teams had registered for this event when a man walked in off the street at their offices in Carlton and signed up a new team on the spot. The reason this is so important for our Rotary Club is that he learned of the event by seeing one of the signs erected on the Rotary Notice boards around Greensborough.

For that the Club and particularly the Davies, are to be congratulated.

Well I hope to see most of you pop in sometime during the event even if for moral support for those participating.

Regards

Martyn Thompson
