Price Park Barbecue

A request to conduct a community BBQ to launch the playground equipment on Saturday 22nd June from Banyule Council, was received as a recommendation from Councillor Steven Briffa.

President David accepted on behalf of the club an d the "BBQ Team" of Sandra Classon, Connie (who bravely did the onions) Christine Shields, myself and of course Pres David (head chef) swung into action.

Pres David provided the marquee, BBQ and the signage and erected all this with the help of grandson-in law (young, tall and fit as well as very willing to help) 

The brief was to provide a free sausage sizzle to the surrounding residents of the park situated in the scenic surrounds of Viewbank.

This was  to be one and a half hours from 2pm to 3.30pm.  The council would pay for expenses, arrange vehicular access to the park and pay the club $250 for our participation. They were so pleased with our effort that it was agreed to pay us $300 and will contact us for future BBQ promotions for which Banyule is responsible.

The weather was perfect. No wind, sun shining and initially only a couple of families and a few children. However,within 5 minutes of commencing to cook the queue was metres long.

People came from nowhere, they were delighted and lots of positive comments were heard regarding the good work Rotary does.

We ran out of bread, used all the crusts, and finally served sausages wrapped in napkins like a lollipop  - the kids loved it!!

Councillor Steve Briffa called in to say "Hello" and we were delighted to see him.

In all it was a great Public Relations exercise, one which we all enjoyed.
