Last week was our last week meeting at the Heidelberg golf club for some time.
Unfortunately there were only 10 members but three guests who are all interested in joining our club.

The guest speaker was Professor Chris Hamilton a leading oncologist from the Austin Hospital who is heavily involved in the Olivia Newton John Centre there. He gave a fantastic presentation on where the Centre is now and where it aims to be in the future again well done Paul for securing such a top notch speaker and I would urge all members to try their utmost to attend the weekly meetings to benefit from these top notch presentations.

The Golf club has had a reassessment of their position and after originally agreeing to no minimum numbers for meals decided that they were losing too much money offering sometimes as few as 10 meals. They also wanted $350 per meeting room charge on top of the meals.

This week’s meeting will be at Paul Craig’s church in Diamond creek which I am sure you all know, the parking is easy and the staff have been extremely obliging and will provide a very nice meal for $15.00 per head.  At the moment we are trialing the venue so I will be very keen to hear your feedback. Paul has assured me that he will not be in any way offended if we find the venue unsuitable.  Already several members commented favorably on the lower meal price and the fact that we are supporting another community based organization.

Tuesday 3rd was the date of Cyril Brant’s funeral. It was conducted by Paul Craig and Graeme Knorr and was well attended by past and present members of our club. Cyril was a great Rotarian who was amongst the most knowledgeable person on Rotary matters that I had met. He served rotary for much of his working life and our club with great distinction after moving to Australia from Wellington. Even after his sad passing he was still supporting Rotary, as the family asked that any donations at the service be given to the Rotary club of Greensborough.

Just a final reminder that Kalparrin has a trivia night on 21st May. This is their main fundraiser for the year and they are desperate to raise $30,000. See Ray Davies who is organizing a table or two for the night.

Friday June 3rd Rotaract are having a trivia night to raise funds in support of their national conference
it is essential that we support these enthusiastic young people. Contact Tony Shields if you can go.

Cheers for Now
