Thanks to all those who helped organize last weeks meeting with guest speaker Stephen Mayne.
We had nearly 60 people attend and I think it showed our club to the guests who attended  in a very good light. The feedback I received from guests was very positive.

Stephen certainly didn't let us down with his forthright and controversial thoughts on everything from corporate governance to the mining Tax to local government. I found it a stimulating and thought provoking presentation.

Just a final reminder to those still deciding whether to attend conference. Registrations close on March 4th and it looks like we will have about  12 attendees. To register follow the ling from our club web page and the rest is easy! - If I did it, it must be easy.

Our club continues to be active in the international community. In July the board approved a project assisting the nursing school in Berega Tanzania. As part of that I authorized this week ,the payment of $5000 from our club to make up part of an $8,000 contribution to that project . Well done to all involved.

At our last board meeting we regretfully received a letter of resignation from a longstanding pillar of our club Laurie Butcher .

Laurie joined our club in 1983 In Tom Skals year as president. From his early days he was a great contributor to the club. He occupied his first board position in 1987 and continued on the board  for most of his time in the club and served in nearly every capacity. He became club secretary in 1995 in Joy Fergusons first stint as president and continued in that role for ten years and was a very competent steading hand to all presidents over that time.
All of those who know Laurie will attest to great sense of humour so he naturally acquitted himself very well as Sergeant at arms and did such a good job he actually did it twice .

As Laurie said himself it was an absolute wrench to have to resign.

He can be very proud of his achievements over his extensive rotary life and I'm sure I speak on behalf of all the club when I say we are very grateful we  will miss him at our meetings .
