I very much enjoyed last weeks meeting on 17th November  which was our annual Gillespie and Upton awards. The presentations ran very smoothly thanks to the great effort put in by Joy Ferguson.
I think our club should be very proud of these awards which have now been going for over 25 years.

I commented to the acting Principal of Montmorency college that I hoped the students got something out of the awards and he commented that some years ago his daughter was fortunate enough to win a Gillespie award and they still talk about it today . His view was that the awards were held in very high esteem.

Thanks also to John Mackey for his introduction. I think he summed up very well when he said when we see the quality of these young people we can be very confident that the future of this country is in good hands.

Tony Bramley also led from the front by being the first to take up the challenge from Bruce Allen from foundation for our club to be 100% EREY – Every Rotarian Every Year. It is a challenge to each member to personally donate $100.00 to Rotary Foundation in the year. After seeing Bruce's presentation two weeks ago I cant think of a better organisation to donate money to . The money donated is not frittered away in administration costs and the foundation makes sure the money goes to where it was intended .
I will be following Tony's  lead this year and hope others can also help.

As many of you will now know we have a president elect for next year. Steve Briffa has accepted the nomination . I know Steve will be a superb president and will have the support of everyone in the club.
They say that if you want something done ask a busy person. There are many in the club who are busy but probably Steve is amongst the busiest. I congratulate him for taking up the challenge.

I am also pleased that two of our newer members have also accepted board positions. Paul Roast has taken on the role of P.R. chairman to replace Kaye Hanvin who has resigned from the board but will still continue active club membership and Simon Flower who has replaced Barry Cole Sinclair who has resigned from the club . Both have already attended one board meeting and as expected contributed well to the meeting.
