It was good to be back from holidays last
week to see that Joy ferguson has done such a good job in my absence. Thankyou
very much Joy.
It was also very good to see such a good
attendance at the meeting with 22 in attendance including guests Sara Briffa and Joan Myerscough.
We were treated to a very good presentation
from Phil Lusher, District head of Rotary Health and Shuwen and Shirlin who are
currently conducting research into bowel cancer and supported by rotary health.
The statistic that surprised me most was that, next to government Rotary health
was the biggest contributor to health research in Australia. As Rotarians we can be justifiably proud of
that. It was also a great pleasure to be able to present Phil with a cheque for
$1000 on behalf of our club.
This week has also been another very busy
week at the club. Inner wheel had a soup and sandwich night to raise funds for
Wheelchairs for Kids and raised over $500 on the night. Our club was
represented by four members one of whom won two raffle prizes. Guess who – Well
done Kerry L.
On Sunday we also had the Bunnings BBQ. The
weather was not great but I hear that we still raised in the order of $1000. It
was particularly heartening to see that the duty roster was fully covered and
good to see our newest member Simon Flower giving time to help. Don't forget,
Simon will give his person behind the badge talk in two weeks so I hope we will
have a good attendance to support him. There is more to organising these BBQs
than would first appear so thanks again to Mark Sefton for organising the day.
The next event coming up is the Cup Day
event at Sampson Hill Winery. This is a great day. Last year it was one of the
most enjoyable Days our club had organized. Many of us will have functions to
attend but I would strongly recommend you try to make it to this event. You will not be disappointed.
Also don't forget Bill Carters raffle
tickets – only $2.00 so they are easy to sell. The winner will be drawn on cup
day.
