This month is Foundation Month.
I would like to encourage every member to personally donate to our charity - The Rotary Foundation. By doing this you achieve the status of being an Every Rotarian Every Year member and you show that you support this great charity that will soon rid this world of the terrible disease Polio.
Did you know that Rotary started Polio Plus in 1985 with an initial pledge of US$120 million? When by 1988, Rotarians had raised US$247 million for Polio Plus; which was more than double the fundraising goal of $120 million; the World Health Assembly passed a resolution to eradicate polio, paving the way for the formation of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

In 1985 there were 400,000 victims of polio in 121 countries. There are now only 3 endemic countries left: Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. India, after a long and dedicated fight, has not reported any new polio cases for over 20 months. The number of polio cases reported worldwide so far this year is the lowest ever at 171 (as at 16 October 2012).
