Eye, Ear and Spinal tests
On Saturday 11th September the club conducted our annual Eye,
Ear and Spinal tests for children between the ages of 31/2 and 51/2 years of
age. Overall on the day the school of audiology tested 41 children. 28 passed
with no concerns. 13 were detected to have a combination of middle ear
issues/congestion and elevated hearing levels.
Our running list had 24 children tested for eye problems and 9 had
spinal tests. I can't confirm exact numbers because some were not marked off
suggesting they either didn't turn up or cancelled over the phone with me.
Where possible we did do more than one test (if time permitted) so it would
appear that a total of 74 tests were conducted at the Kalparrin Early Learning
Centre in Greensborough.
For the last few years we have typically held this testing in the second
week end of September, however this, I believe, clashes with the Diamond Creek
Fair/Fete which was cancelled this year because of weather problems, but going
forward perhaps it would be better to consider doing it say two weeks later in
late September if that is suitable to Kalparrin, the school of audiology, the
club, Mark and Greg? And it doesn't clash with something else !
The Melbourne University School of Audiology have also suggested that it
would be good for them to work with slightly older children, so next year I'm
suggesting that we contact local primary schools to see if the parents of the
prep year level could be contacted. It would need to be a slightly different
notification procedure. We don't want our typical poster going up on the wall
in the school and primary school aged children from all age levels turning up
