The Eye, Ear and Spinal Testing Day run by the Rotary Club of Greensborough was held for the fifth year at the Kalparrin Early Intervention Learning Centre in Kalparrin Ave, Greensborough on Saturday 17th September 2011.

Eight (8) club members (including myself) and one friend of Rotary (Beryl Lim) were in attendance at times throughout the day to co-ordinate the testing.

These Rotarians were, George Lim, Jerome (Jerry) Winston, Bill Carter, Graeme Knorr, Mark Leverett, Greg Shambrook and myself. Connie D’Amore delivered sandwiches, thanks Connie and Beryl for the sandwiches (and cakes) and thanks also to Christine Shields for delivering cakes as well.

Rotarian Ron Myerscough and wife Joan prepared all of the bookings in the weeks leading up to the event and former Rotarian Cheryl-Lee Carter once again prepared all of the necessary correspondence.

With the assistance of Greg Shambrook, Mark Leverett and Kathleen from Leverett and Kinder and nine (9) Audiology Students from the Melbourne School of Audiology, 50 tests were conducted on the day that ran from 8.45am to 2.45pm.

The audiology students, did 29 test with 21 passing with no concerns. The remaining 8 had hearing levels that could be explained by a temporary middle ear issue and have been given information about where to get hearing reviewed. No significant hearing loss was recorded. An informal chat with Mark, confirmed that there were some only minor sight problems identified that would require further investigation. No spinal issues were revealed

Moving forward, this can be a great club event again, if more of the work is spread around perhaps half a dozen Rotarians. On that basis I think it is imperative that we form a committee to address this and maintain that committee through this year and into the next Rotary Year 2012/13 when the event is next held. This event is really the responsibility of two club presidents, ie the existing president and the president elect.
