It is with great regret that I received a resignation effective immediately from president elect Steven Briffa and his wife Sara.

They have cited family issues and Steve has asked for privacy and would prefer not to field calls about this situation.

On behalf of the club I have relayed my sadness to hear of his decision and offered them any help we can give. He stressed he is a great supporter of rotary and wants to continue that support.

This obviously leaves the club in a difficult position.

I have spoken to DG Alan Anderson and it is possible that a past president can take over at the end of this year and it may also be possible to urgently train a new president to take over as soon as practicable. He is checking with RI and has not got back to me at this time.

I cannot continue as caretaker president after July 7 as I am going away for 6 weeks

It will be necessary in any event to postpone changeover night.

I advise that we will have an emergency special meeting for all members at the Baptist church from at 1.30 pm until 2.00 pm  tomorrow.

Later:

At Wednesday 15th meeting I received a nomination for president elect for 2011/2012 Of John Hardiman . The nomination was from Paul Craig and was seconded by Tony Bramley and was affirmed by 15 of the members present .

I keeping with corporation rules I will now invite any further nominations for president to be forwarded to me by next Wednesday 22/6/2011. If none are forthcoming John will be confirmed as the incoming president at that meeting.

ALSO IMPORTANT – At next weeks meeting we have a VIP speaker –Professor Christophi who heads the research team at the Austin Hospital. Please try to attend and bring a friend or colleague to hear this very eminent speaker.
