Last Wednesday, the Rotary Club of Greensborough had the priviedge of the annnual visit from the DG.

Rotary International is made up of 1.2 million Rotarians united by current threads of networking (fellowship) and service. For all of that, said DG David Anderson, the engine room of Rotary is the local club. There may well be 1.2 million Rotarians but there is only one you. Each and every member is of value. It comes down to this year's motto: "Reach within to embrace humanity."

Members attention was drawn to four specific items.

  • Membership. In recent times there has been no global growth in membership. New Members have more or less replaced members who leave for whatever reason. Retaining Members said the DG is as important as gaining new ones. He advocated improvement in mentoring and orientation of new memebrs and ongoing care and involvement of existing ones.
  • Rotary Foundation. In District 9790 Greensborough has the second highest per capita donations to The Rotary Foundation. We are encouraged to maintain this level. The value of the Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) was emphasised.
  • New Generations Programmes. Interact, Rotoract, RYLA are all important aspects and the Rotary Youth Exchange Programme is highly recommended.
  • The District project (Partner) for the DG is support of a RAWCS project for the Goroka General Hospital in Papua New Guinea. Information can be found in "The District Drum", available as a link on our Club webpage.
