We were fortunate to have Mr Ian Hemming, President of the Diamond Valley Food Share Inc. to address our first meeting of 2011.

D.V.Food Share has been in operation servicing the needs of unfortunate families in Banule and the Diamond Valley for the past 19 years and is open each week day between 1.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m.to service clients that have been accessed either by Diamond Valley and Banyule Support Services.

It is manned by 40 volunteers who work approximately one day each per month and all items of food etc. are either donated or bought out of funds donated mainly by schools, organisations, companies and Rotary.

In 2010  a total of 1775 parcels of food were handed out which equated to 3801 people and /or 45,612 meals.

The clients come from a large range of backgrounds, mainly young families who in a lot of cases the wife wakes up in the morning to find that her partner has walked out, some people cannot even cook.

On behalf of the Diamond Valley Food Share Inc. Mr Hemming thanked our Club for the ongoing support that we have given them and reiterated that without the support of the community they would not be able to continue servicing the needy.
