Last week we had a very interesting presentation from Sharon Hillman of the Olivier Newton John Cancer and Welness Centre. We have been working with Melissa Cramp, who also visited us, over the past week or so related to our up coming Business Breakfast.

It was a very well presented and interesting talk and the work of ONJCWC is very impressive. Here is some of the story:

Austin Health has created a new model in the way cancer is treated.

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre is a purpose built, integrated cancer centre that is now an international leader in patient-centered medical treatment, cancer research and supportive wellness care – for the body, mind and spirit.

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre is the first of Victoria’s three new Cancer Centres to open in Melbourne Australia (as part of the Victorian Cancer Plan)

  • One of the largest cancer services in Australia
  • Treating all types of cancer
  • Offers full range of cancer treatments: medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, haematology and palliative care
  • National leader in multidisciplinary care
  • Specialised allied health & nursing services
  • Leading radiology and PET scanning centre 
  • Radiotherapy treatments:  28,000 Inpatients (including palliative care and ‘hospital in the home’

  •  Episodes of care:  20,000

  • Bed days:  65,000

  • Inpatient episodes:   26,000 (cancer surgery-related

  • Highest percentage of patients were in the 60-69 years age group

Part of the proceeds from our Business Breakfast will be donated to the Olivier Newton-John cancer and Wellness Cente.
