President Zillis Hardiman presented awards to twelve students at a special event held at The Heidelberg Golf Club on Monday the 18th November.
The Rotary Club of Greensborough is proud to have sponsored the Gillespie and Upton Awards for a continuous period in excess of 35 years. They are given to students one for each year 7 to 12 inclusive at both Greensborough Secondary College and Montmorency Secondary College annually.
These awards relate to not only scholastic excellence but also to the participation of the awardees in College programs and events, including activities within the community. In effect the manifestation of leadership qualities.
The awards commemorate the memory and, more particularly, the services provided by the late Kevin Edward Gillespie and George Thornton Upton MBE to this community, especially its young people. They were both Charter Members of the Rotary Club in 1968.
Certificates were also given to our two Junior Rotarians for the month at the event.
