Following the Charter Meeting on Sunday, representatives from no less than 5 clubs attended a brief meeting to discuss the collaborative efforts to provide ongoing support for the students at the Diamond Valley Learning Centre who are undertaking the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning.

The clubs are Rotary Clubs of Eltham, Diamond Creek, Greensborough Central, our club of Greensborough and the Rotaract Club of Diamond Valley.

Areas of need already identified and being supported financially are :-

Exercise program for students

Provision of funds for the supply of MYKI passes for students identified by the Staff as being in need of funds for transport to school and excursions.

Coree of Life which is a program to educate teens regarding the preparation and responsibilities in parenting, general health, and training for their future.

Money has also been donated (by 3 of our members) and from Greensborough Central to assist some students to obtain a "Learners Package" so as to help them gain entry to the L2P program and therefore get their driver licence which is essential for students to get an apprenticeship and to possibly get a job in the work force.

This package will be tied to students achieving  an acceptable level of attendance and will be monitored closely.  A special class  has been organised for these students to attend during the next term holidays to assist them with their preparation to apply for their "Learners" permit.

It is anticipated that the needs for these Special Needs students will be ongoing. These needs will be presented to the combined group of clubs for consideration.  Each club will contribute to the level at which they are able.

The VCAL staff will give written feedback and assessment of each activity to which the "Group" has contributed and the benefits obtained (or otherwise) by the students and the impact on class as a whole.

To support  these disadvantaged members of our society will translate into positive outcomes for  our community.
