The Rotary Club of Greensborough, in conjunction with a team from the University of Melbourne’s School of Audiology conducted hearing tests for children aged between 3 ½ and 5 ½ years on Saturday 5th May 2018. The tests were conducted at the Kalparrin Centre in Greensborough.
This has been a regular community service of RCG for many years and was headed up by Community Service Chair Bill Carter.
Free eye testing for children of the same age group were conducted at the same time and location. Mark Leverett (of Leverett and Kindler Optometrist, Greensborough) organised staff to supervise these tests.
Kindergartens and Preschools from the region were contacted and they in turn provided information to parents. This was another indication of networking together to provide community service. Service Projects Chair David Ling, who was responsible for communications and registration expressed appreciation to all involved.
Cheryl-Lee Carter was in charge of the setup for the day and acknowledged the efforts of Rotary Members who helped on the day.

Hearing
- 40 paediatric hearing screenings were carried out
- 22 were found to have normal hearing at the levels screened
- 12 were referred for review with their GP and further testing for potential problems as they had a hearing loss measured and an abnormal middle ear reading
- 6 need to be re-tested as they were either unable to be fully assessed or they had results that may suggest a permanent hearing problem. They have been recommended for immediate diagnostic audiology
Optometry
- 29 paediatric vision screenings were carried out
- 27 were found to have normal vision at the screened level
- 2 were referred for further testing
A fantastic result as this day has meant that potential problems have been picked up that may not otherwise have been, or might have had a delayed diagnosis.
