2012-2013 President Brian Robert's excitement over our club's new meeting place was dampened by the disappearance of his gavel.  Having known the thrill of wielding its awesome power at only a single meeting, Brian was clearly crushed by the prospect of having to ring the bell with a dinner fork.  Club members rallied to support the grief-stricken president, enabling him to carry on and conduct a great meeting at the Black Bear Restaurant, our club's new home.

Accusations flew as members (President Roberts among them) speculated as to who could have committed the dasterdly deed. Past Presidents Jeff Davis and Kathy Kennedy, as well as Seargant-at-Arms John Perry were among those openly accused. While Jeff Davis offered no comment, Kathy Kennedy explained that it could not have been her because she had been on vacation for the last two weeks. Past President Cindy Lara stated that she considered Jeff Davis to be a likely suspect, noting that Jeff was at the final meeting at Crosswinds Church (the last time the gavel was seen). Cindy also recalled that at the end of Jeff's presidency, Jeff openly discussed someone stealing the gavel.  John Perry recalled that several Rotarians helped him load our club's supplies into the trunk of his car, stating that it could have been any one of them. John speculated that it was just as likely that some passer-by took advantage of the unattended vehicle. We may never know.

As our new president, Brian Robers, awaits words from the kidnapper(s), we Rotarians are praying for his gavel's safe return.
