During TotalEnergies Suriname’s presentation, Hercules Medeiros, Field Operations Manager and Head of Local Content, highlighted the objectives and progress of the SURICAP programme.
SURICAP is a partnership between the Government of Suriname, Staatsolie and TotalEnergies, focused on developing Surinamese talent for the emerging offshore oil and gas industry with a participation of more than 40 local and international companies.
The programme goes beyond technical training. It also promotes safety, environmental standards, and vocational activities. Through an Industrial Baseline Study, key areas for support were identified, while recognising sectors that already have strong local capacity.
Progress is already visible: logistics operations have been moved from Trinidad to Suriname, and local capacity is currently being expanded and the intention is to intensify that once GranMorgu project activities are also transferred to Suriname till first oil in 2028.
Together with the Ministries of Education, O&G and Labour, government agencies and local communities, the findings are being transformed into practical development programmes.
SURICAP is investing in knowledge, opportunity and a stronger future for Suriname.
