On Saturday December 18, Rotary club of Paramaribo Quota and Rotary club of Paramaribo Residence started a Stuka Prisiri project for the sixth time and this time in the Coronie district, 122 km from Paramaribo. The areas of focus addressed bij this project are: Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, Economic Community Development.
A total of 8 Rotarians participate in this project. Other Rotarians will join in occasionally. 24 children from 4 primary schools (7th grade) of this district have been selected to participate in the Stuka Prisiri program that runs from January 2022 to December 2023. The goal of this project is to develop their soft skills and in that way contribute to a positive self-image of these children. The program will include the following components: art and culture, basic life skills, sport and career orientation. This time it was a special occasion because the previous programs were all performed in Paramaribo, while now it will take place in a distant district. After singing the national anthem the President of Rotary club of Paramaribo Quota, Daniëla Herkul, opened this special meeting with a speech and a representative of Rotary club of Paramaribo Residence also spoke.
The coordinator of this project and the 7 volunteers from Coronie who will support the Stuka Prisiri project were also present. The children all received a bag with, among other things, notebooks, a pencil case with contents, colored pencils, things that will be used for different activities. All participants also received a t-shirt with the Stuku Prisiri and the Rotary logo on it.
In order to carry out the project, we received a laptop, a printer, cartridges and various other attributes from a number of fellow sponsors, which we handed over to the coordinator. In between we sang some Christmas songs. Of course there was no shortage of snacks and drinks on this special day in Coronie. We ended the meeting by singing two Christmas carols namely We wish you a merry Christmas (in 3 languages) and Jingle Bells, while everyone waved enthusiastically. We are all looking forward to starting the program in January!
