We are pleased to witness that the first group of teachers who have been trained in raising awareness on Childhood Obesity Prevention at schools, have shared their knowledge with another school.
Last year the Rotary Club of Paramaribo Residence trained around 20 teachers from Imeao-1 vocational school, among others, in Paramaribo, Suriname.
With the additional support of the Rotary Club of Maumee, Ohio, USA, they have visited IMEAO in the district of Nickerie to share their knowledge with teachers and students.
Obesity continues to be a major risk factor for chronic diseases and death in Suriname.
With initiatives such as these, we aim to prevent and reduce the number of people with obesity.
