It all started when two of our members visited Lisbon for the Rotary International Conference. The two members that went were: my husband Jeremy McConnell and myself Kristi Larson. Throughout Lisbon I kept on seeing Rotary's "this close" campaign photos. They were on the backs of buses, posters at bus stops, on bill boards and several posters at the conference centre. I said to Jeremy....when we get home I want to do a "this close" campaign in our club and showcase our local celebrities: our members.  I took my idea to our board and they accepted it! Starting October 24th - world polio day, you will see your campaign in action. We have attached our mini posters to donation bins to collect money for polio. Most of our members own businesses in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Edmonton and St. Albert. We have also asked some local businesses if they would mind having a bin as well. Some of the places you will see our campaign: United Construction Company in Edmonton, Jack's Drive In, Royal Lepage,Drayden Insurance in Spruce Grove, Laberge Engraving, Rizzoli Denture and Implant Clinic, St. Albert Denture and Implant Clinic, Power Works Electrical, Investors Group, Bone and Biscuit in Spruce Grove, Birdsell Grant LLP, The ATB branch in both Stony Plain and Spruce Grove as well as The Servus Credit Union branch in Stony Plain. We will be collecting donations until the end of the November.

The timing of our campaign couldn't be more perfect. It was just announced at the District Conference at the beginning of October, that the Alberta Government will be matching donations made by Albertans in this fiscal year up to 350k. Then those donations will be matched 2 to 1 by The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. Making a $1 donation worth $5.

We ask you all to: Join In. Speak out. Donate. Be a part of history.
