Rotary District Governor Visits Roatan
Jose Moreno, District 4250 Governor, was our Special Guest on his Official Visit to the Club. Jose and his group spent an excellent day visiting some of our projects around the Island.
Jose Moreno and Rey Canales visited the Mahogany Bay Booth, the Police Station to see the cars, equipment and the newly installed stove. They also visited the Sand Castle Library for children and Clinica Esperanza. Jose Moreno was very supportive of the club and its projects.
He thanked Edda Borjas, Cynthia Parchment and Janice Carter for spending the day with the Governors wife Linda and he thanked Mandy Wagner for her assistance preparing the successful day.
Jose Moreno was introduced by Dr. Brito who provided the members with a resume of the work and service that Jose has contributed to Rotary. Jose has been member of the Rotary Club of Guatemala East since 1987. He has filled many important positions and has had perfect attendance for over sixteen years.
The District Governor delivered an address of Kalyan Banerjee, President of Rotary International. His motto is search within yourself to enhance humanity. President Banerjee stresses three principle areas. They consist of strengthen your family, do what we do best and change what needs changing. The president of Rotary International wants peace throughout the world and that peace begins at home. He stresses the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi of becoming the change that you want to see. He thinks that Rotarians strive to build a happier world through their service projects around the globe. There are 33,000 Rotary Clubs and 1.2 million Rotarians putting service above self.
District 4250 consists of Honduras, Guatemala and Belize. The district is within Zone 21A which has 53 clubs and 1223 members. The website for the district is www.distrito4250.org.
Special Thanks to Paul Gatlin, Gary Evans, Russ Summerell, Mitch Cummins, and Peggy Stranges for their assistance escorting and explaining the different projects that were visited by the Governor and Assistant Governor. As well as Edda Borjas, Cynthia Parchment and Janice CarterThe goals of District 4250 are to raise membership by 5% and fund the Rotary Foundation 100% by donating $100 for every member in the district. He also wants each club in the district to donate $1000 for Polio Plus.
Jose stated that he will have awards for the most original and creative fundraiser in the district. He will also have an award for the service project that reaches within to embrace humanity.
He announced the Luis Felipe Valenzuela Seminar that will take place in Guatemala City from February 29 until March 3 and urged us to consider participation.
Jose then gave a short recap of the day’s visits and commented on each of the projects he had seen. He took the trouble to show photographs that he had taken during the day. He ended his speech by offering his congratulations to the club members for their hard work and a successful first year.
