Local Roatan business man, Rob Baker, donates 1,000 printed regulators for Covid-19 res-med project.

The Rotary Club of Roatan recently received a donation of the 3D variety last week. As you may know, the Rotary Club has been providing support to the res-med (similar to a Cpap unit) project which was started by Rotarian Michael McCarry to help COVID-19 patients who are seriously ill receive much needed oxygen in a non-invasive manner. The program has seen great success throughout Honduras and is also being launched in Belize, Guatemala and talks are underway with El Salvador. One of the small parts required for the units is a tiny piece used to help regulate the flow of oxygen for each patient. The piece is difficult to find and many of the public hospitals do not have the budget to have them printed.

Rotarian Mic Burich mentioned the project and how challenging it was to get access to a 3D printer to make these parts, to one of his clients and friend, Rob Baker, owner of Blue Bahia Beach Grill in Sandy Bay. It turns out, Rob's niece, Rebekka and her husband Charlie just opened a 3D printing company called Charlie's 3D Printing (facebook.com/Charlies-Custom-3D-Printing) in the United States and they were able to provide a good price on the parts needed. When the pricing came in, Rob contacted Rotary Co-President, Shelly Hood Burich and indicated that he was paying the bill and had ordered a total of 1,000 pieces and wanted to donate them to the Rotary Club of Roatan to help distribute them where the resmed project was being deployed.

We were also in luck as Rebekka and Charlie were actually coming down to Roatan for a family event and were able to bring them in an additional checked bag.

Many thanks to Rob and his family for supporting Michael McCarry's project, the Rotary Club of Roatan and for being difference makers!
