Grade 11 & 12 Debate Competition
May 5th at Taj Park Convention Center, Surrey
All current Grade 11 and 12 students in Canada and USA are invited to participate. This event will help improve your public speaking, leadership and critical thinking skills apart from showcasing your talent before the community and help prepare for post-secondary studies.
 Selection Process:
All students will need to register online on the event website Registration process will also include a short essay to be submitted by each participant. All registered and pre-screened applicants will be invited to attend in person workshops in Surrey, BC in the month of April. The exact dates and locations of the workshops will be announced soon. At the end of the workshops, 10 finalists will be selected who will participate in the final public program on May 5th. At least 70% of finalists will be selected from public schools.
Total scholarship money of $15000 will be distributed to the winners with top prize money of $3500.

The event will be judged by leading personalities from academia and public life.
Debate Topics:
  1. Is social media as it exists today a positive influence on society?
  2. Should the BC government allow the Kinder Morgan pipeline to be built?
  3. Do violence and gangster themes in popular music and media impact youth behaviour?
  4. Should individuals have the right to build and own monster homes?
  5. Is the legalization of recreational marijuana in Canada a good decision?
  6. Should school uniforms be made mandatory?
  7. Is democracy the best form of government?
  8. Is mobility pricing a good idea for solving the transportation challenges of Metro Vancouver?
  9. Should there be reserved seats for women in provincial and federal legislature to encourage female representation?
  10. Should schools move away from reporting academic grades?
