WHERE WE FUND

ANNUAL CONTRIBUTIONS
($16,000 IN 2022-23)

  1. Scholarship/Awards for Victoria-area Students
For many years the Rotary Club of Victoria has contributed awards to students at Esquimalt High School where we have established an INTERACT Club. Starting in 2021 this program was expanded to include graduating students in the Victoria region. ($9,000)

  2. Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair
For more than 20 years the Rotary Club of Victoria has been a major contributor to the operation of the Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair. The fair is held in April every year for students in Grades 4-12. As many as 200 students from more than 20 schools participate and more than 700 additional students visit the fair. The fair organizers send up to 8 students to the Canada-Wide Science Fair where they represent our region. Rotarians serve as judges and award prizes for Environment-related projects. In 2021 a major $2000 prize was established for the Best Senior Project in the fair. ($4,500)

  3. Literacy 1000 x 5
The Rotary Club of Victoria has a strong commitment to promote literacy. 1000x5 is based upon the belief that if a child hears 1000 books by the age of 5, he or she will be much better prepared to enjoy and succeed in learning. Wide community participation raises the awareness of the importance of universal early literacy and then we do something about it. ($2000)

  4. Project Unity
The Rotary Club of Victoria is a member of the Project Unity Committee (PUC). This group of Victoria-area Rotary Clubs meet regularly and jointly fund a major project each year. The focus of the Project Unity Committee is to fund World Community Service programs/projects around the world that are eligible for District and R.I. matching grants.
These groups are not listed in the annual summaries but the contributions are included in the yearly total.
