After more than two years without any new polio outbreaks, the Government of Nigeria reported on 11 August 2016 that two children have been paralyzed by the disease.

Rotary International has immediately responded by recommitting "its efforts to ensure that every child is born into a polio-free world where they are safe from this paralyzing disease."
