Independent Transportation Network (ITN)

I'm a volunteer driver for Independent Transportation Network (ITN) a nonprofit whose mission is to free those who cannot drive from being trapped in their homes.  I've driven stroke victims to physical therapy. I drove a blind man and his guide dog home from a veterinarian.  I’ve driven a legally blind man to his job.

Although many trips are provided to bring members for medical reasons, I a trip to a hairdresser or any other trip is within the ITN vision.

Although, I get a great feeling of satisfaction helping those who cannot drive, ITN was founded to remove those from the highways who have no other way to get around and may not be safe to drive.

We start to age and lose skills at 35 years of age. Ouch. I’m 79 and 1/3.

At age 80 we have 10% of our younger vision for night driving. It’s like a younger driver driving at night wearing welder’s goggles

Those over 65 are 17 times more likely to have an accident turning left against on coming traffic.

The federal government subsidizes transportation in York County through York County Community Action, but I understand it only has resources to offer one ride a month and that to a doctor. I am aware of a person who needs to go to MMC every week, but can only get one ride monthly from York County Community Action. Sandy is no longer able to drive and is dependent upon a wonderful 94-year-old friend driver.
