Club Mtg-SHS Interact Dinner Nov 1, 2016

 

Opening and Welcome:  President Jackie Guzie opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test. Scott Seabury gave the invocation and led the club singing of “God Bless America”. Jackie then turned the meeting leadership over to Madison D’Ostuni- President of SHS Interact.

 

Members Present: Jerry Crane, Gayle Demko, Guy Fortunato, Jackie Guzie, Gail Handley, Greg Heineman, Robert Lowell, Clark Mason, Karen Mason, Jack Muska, Ray Perleoni, Charles Roumas, and Scott Seabury, (13/35  37%). 

 

Guests: Natalie Donais-former Windsor Rotarian & prospect sponsored by Bob Lowell; Jon Kozloski- prospect sponsored by Jackie Guzie; Kelly Carucci-Rotary November Student of the Month and her parents Ralph and Kathleen; Interact President Madison D’Ostuni and Kate McCluskey, SHS Faculty sponsor. Also a dozen+ other SHS Interact members were present.

 

Announcements: As Interact served food to Rotary members, Guy Fortunato had each of the Interact members introduce themselves. Madison D’Ostuni reminded Rotary members of many of Interact’s accomplishments in the past year. Below is a partial list of the many current year service events Interact participated in:

 -Set up and take down activities at the Packard Golf Tourney

-Hosted successful breakfast for Best Buddies Program

-Assisted Suffield Parks & Rec with the annual Road Race

-Heavy involvement in “Source to Sea” program

-Participated in annual Salvation Army Drive as bell ringers at donation stands

-Substituted for SHS Draft Club on many of their programs/ activities

-Hosting the November dinner for Rotarians, and sold sneakers to benefit the National Diabetes Foundation.  

 

She also ensured we recognized Faculty Sponsor and Event Coordinator Kate McCluskey for her continued fine work and thanked all the participants in this dinner for their efforts.

 

Program: Speaker: Kelly Carucci- Rotary Student of the month for November.

Kelly is an Interact member, and on the Student Council and Unity Team at SHS. She is also a captain of Varsity Basketball and also played Varsity Soccer. Her plans are to enter college in the fall to study Pharmacy. During her speech, she highlighted five lessons/ pieces of advice for her successors:

-You are responsible for all your own words and actions, no one else.

 

-Get Involved! Whether it is sports, leadership programs, etc. Anything that helps your development.

 

-Do not be afraid to speak your mind. Share your opinions and thoughts.

 

-Give back to your community whenever you have an opportunity to help.

 

-Study! Study! Study!
