Club Meeting October 13, 2015

Past President Jay Presser opened the meeting with he Pledge of Allegiance and reciting the Rotary Four Way Test.  Scott Seabury gave the invocation and led with the singing of "God Bless America."

 

Members Present: Beth Cannone, Peter Das, Jed Dery, Greg DeSantis, Frank DiGennaro, Gail Handley, Dick Kisiel, Luis Lee, Don Miner, Paul Pace, Ken Pascoe, Ray Perleoni, Jay Presser, Scott Seabury, Tom Sil;liovan, and Nancy Viggiano.

 

Guests: Jay introduced the guests attending the meeting that included Donna Murphy, a prospective new member, Dan Bahl and his parents Ted and Julie, and his sister Abigail.  Don Miner introduced Peter Ortiz, a visiting Rotarian from California.  

 

Jay welcomed new club member, Beth Cannone. A club assembly will be held at the next meeting during which Ken Pascoe will provide an update on club finances  The district will hold several functions with the next few weeks including a Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) and Foundation Dinner.  New club members urged to attend RLI.  Check email announcements for both events.  Jay will send an email reminder regarding Food Share food packing event.

 

Fo0llowing dinner, Jay introduced Dan Bahl, a senior at Suffield High School.  Dan is the president of the student council, member of the National Honor Society, Captain of his baseball and hockey team, and a student coach in the school's writing center.  Dan began his remarks by thanking the club for its recognition and the support he has received from his parents and sister.  Dan's remarks focused on the life lessons and personal satisfaction that he has received from his volunteer coaching. Dan assists with skill clinics and practices from young hockey players of the Enfield HockeyAssociation.

 

Dan plans to attend college where he will major in broadcast journalism.  He is undecided on the school of choice.  life. His remarks were followed by a question and answer session during which he credits a social studies teacher at the high school for the positive impact this teacher has had on his academic and personal life.

 

Anniversaries:  The club recognized the 52nd anniversary of Peter and Natalie Das, and the 47th anniversary of Greg and Jean DeSantis.

 

For the third week, Jed Dery won the blue ticket drawing, with the sides won by Dick Kisiel and guest Abigail Bahl.  Don Miner won the red ticket but did not draw the queen of hearts to win the $65 jackpot.
