Rotary Club of Suffield Meeting: August 6, 2019

 

Opening and Welcome: Gayle Demko opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test and the invocation; Tom Sullivan led the singing of “God Bless America.”

 

Members Present: Dale Baker, Gayle Demko, Jed Dery, Frank DiGennaro, Greg Heineman, Heidi Huhn-Partain, Dick Kisiel, Jon Kozloski, Don Miner, Jack Muska, Paul Muska, Ken Pascoe, Jay Presser, Renae Ransdell,  Tom Sullivan, and Cat Thomas (16/32 = 50%)

 

Guests: None

 

Announcements:

Golf Tournament: Jon Kozloski provided an update on the 28th Annual Glenn T. Packard Golf Tournament which will be held on Friday, August 9. Jon announced that everything is on track for another successful golf tournament. Each golfer will receive a cooler as a gift. Volunteers are still needed. He asked all volunteers to arrive by 7:15 a.m.

 

Stuff a Cruiser – Thanks to our members for supporting this worthwhile project and a special thank you to Ginny Bromage for donating a box full of schoolroom supplies.

 

Rotarians will be carrying the American flag at the Yard Goats game on 8/24.  If interested you can sign up or let Gayle know- we have Renae, Dick & Paige and Gayle attending so far.  Proceeds collected for tickets that night will go toward Rotary Polio eradication efforts.

 

Ken Pascoe distributed 10 tickets to each member to sell for the chicken barbeque on Suffield on the Green; more tickets are available if needed!  We are looking for volunteers for our Rotary booths and welcome your husbands and wives and neighbors participation!

 

The members agreed on Royal Blue as the color for our next polo shirt order.  Gayle will talk with Bob Bouley next week to make arrangements for this order and a sign up will be passed around for participation and shirt sizes. 

 

Program:

Ken Pascoe reviewed the proposed budget for 2019-20. He shared a proposal for distributing scholarship awards in the future that would allow a student to receive a thousand dollar scholarship for each of four years providing they maintain a specific grade point average; a revision the Scholarship committee can review and define. After a discussion on several budget matters, Heidi motioned to accept the budget as proposed, seconded by Dick. The motion carried with one abstention.

 

Blue Ticket Winners: Blue ticket winner- Jed with side wins by Jack and Jon.

 

Queen of Hearts: Ken Pascoe had the winning ticket and did not pull the Queen of Hearts. Total winning pot now stands at $681.

 

Birthdays and Anniversaries: None.  A get well card was passed for Gail Handley with wishes for a speedy recovery.

 

Adjournment: Tom Sullivan closed the meeting with a group signing of “My Country Tis of Thee.”

 

Next week’s meeting: Aug 13, 2019 Suffield Country Club – The Eitel’s will offer a report of the Hilltop project. 

A Board Meeting will begin at 4:45 PM prior to the club meeting.
