Club Meeting March 1, 2016

 

President Jackie Guzie opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test.  Greg Heineman gave the invocation.  Club members tried their very best to sing "God Bless America."

Announcements: 

Jackie announced that a discussion and vote on the donation to the Suffield Little League will be held on the March 15.  The club sends its sincere sympathy to the Tom Modzelesky and his family.   Mass of Christian Burial, for Tom’s father-in-law, will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016, 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, 140 S. Main St., Suffield. Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Suffield. 

Gerry Crane announced that the Southwick Rotary is holding a dinner dance on March 11.  Contact Gerry for more information.

 

Congratulations to Joe Blake and his wife Valentina.  Joe announced that another “bun in the oven” is due in September.

 

Chris Nikolis and his wife Denise organized five years ago a young people’s bike race/ride for cancer.  This event in Suffield emerged out of their participation in the Pan Mass Challenge bicycle race for the Jimmy Fund that has raised over 303 million dollars for the Jimmy Fund and their desire to involve Suffield’s children in a similar cause.  For the past four years, the event has raised nearly $90,000 for the Jimmy Fund.  The first event had 82 riders, and last year 171 riders.  The biking event will take place the first Saturday in May with all proceeds to be donated to the Jimmy Fund.  Chris is speaking to various groups in town hoping to raise interest and commitment to support the event.

Blue Ticket Winners:  Guy Fortunato wins again, with a side won by Dick Kisiel

 

Queen of Hearts: Jed Dery had the winning ticket by did not draw the lucky queen and win the $143 jackpot.

 

Adjournment:  Club members gave Ken Pascoe a tribute to his birthday by singing its own version of “Happy Birthday.”
