Shots for Tots
Community Service
Shots for Tots
Shots for Tots, a low
cost immunization program, is a collaborative effort between the Colorado
Children’s Immunization Coalition (CCIC) the Tri-County Health Department and the Aurora
Fire Department. The program began in 2002 and has immunized more than 12,000
children. Each month at Aurora Fire Station #2, (Hoffman Heights @ Del Mar
& Hoffman Blvd.), Paramedics & Fire Fighters provide immunization and
Tri- County nurses screen children to decide what vaccines are needed while
providing parents immunization education and records.
Rotary
volunteers support these efforts by providing "traffic control"
...moving folks through the line, organizing paperwork, simple logistics like
setting up the tables and chairs, and provide food throughout the day for the
firefighters, nurses and volunteers. Rotarians also send the kids
off with a book or a teddy bear. AFRC makes “Shots for Tots” an annual
community service project during the months of October, November &
December.
