The annual District-wide event for 2023-2024 will be held on Saturday, September 30th. This is not your typical conference - but an educational and social event with a sole focus on helping clubs develop better service projects.

Erik Mason, Longmont Museum Director provided highlights of Longmont's 2013 flood. He also reminded us of previous flooding in Longmont. The first documented flood in the front range happened in the Denver Cherry Creek area in 1864. Floods in Longmont date back to 1894 and 1921, flooding several areas of Main St. In 1935 a levy broke at Terry Lake and flooded the east side of Longmont. In 1969, Erik said, "this was the flood that wasn't". There was a tremendous rain downpour, but the Button Rock Damn prevented severe flooding in Longmont.
The Longmont Museum is honoring the 10th anniversary of the 2013 flood in several ways through exhibits, public programs and tours of affected areas.
The Fundraising Committee is introducing a new opportunity for club members to invest in club development and enjoy immediate benefits from their investment. The Longmont Rotary Marketplace will feature donated products and/or services on which members can offer bids. Think of this as a virtual silent auction. Because all products and services will be donated by other club members or local vendors, every dollar from purchases in the Marketplace will go toward club development. Sarah Leonard, Executive Director for Visit Longmont is tasked with developing and promoting tourism for Longmont. Tourism translates into $220 million dollars to Longmont, along with an estimated 4,000 jobs. Sarah gave us a sneak peak into the 2024 plans which include several new campaigns, (one being a mascot contest), enhanced branding, an overhauled website, a focus on meetings and events, growing their team and reconnecting with community and partners. Rotarians gathered for a beautiful sunset ride from the Rotary Bridge to Sandstone Visitor Center, raising awareness and funds for Rise Against Suicide.
Here you have it- two Rotarians sharing what inspires them. John Eastman, "My daughter is my inspiration. She's my hero. She successfully battled a rare form of cancer, (only 100 in the whole world), had four years of treatment, and during COVID ". Sue Connelly is inspired by Constitution Week (September 17th-23rd). She provided us with US flag lapel pins and a cloth pocket star. The pocket star message: “I am part of our American flag that has flown over the USA. I can no longer fly. The sun and winds caused me to become tattered and torn. Please carry me as a reminder that YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN”.
