Josh Atherton, Executive Director for the St. Vrain Valley School District Education is a fifth generation Longmont citizen. The mission of the Foundation is to provide resources and educational opportunities, in partnership with St. Vrain Valley Schools and our local communities, to enhance student success and teacher excellence. The foundation is independent from the school district and has its own Board of Directors. Founded in 1985, the foundation has grown over the years, awarding Teacher Innovation Grants, student scholarships, along with hosting a teacher appreciation night, “Tribute to Teachers”. The foundation also hosts the annual Sunrise Stampede to support students with special needs
Josh also spoke about "529 Jump", a community program that is designed to bring awareness to saving for post-secondary education by utilizing a tax-deducting 529 savings account. To learn more about the many programs and upcoming events, check out their website.
Michelle Phelan updated the club about Crayons to Calculators, a multi-district school supply distribution that ensures 11,000 students in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts start the school year with the supplies they need for a successful and strong academic year. Leona Stoecker announced an upcoming club service project for The Little Pantry at First Lutheran Church (where we hold our meetings). For the month of October we will be doing a food drive, bringing in specific nonperishable items. Click this LINK to review the possible items. The Little Pantry is open to everyone in the community and offers a new way for neighbors to care for neighbors.
Congratulations to Don Owens on receiving the Rotary Club STAR Award. Ken Cline presented the award to Don, thanking him for his long standing dedication to the club music team. Congratulations Don on a well deserved recognition!
On October 13th at 9am to Noon, we have the opportunity to get our hands dirty at the YMCA's Community Gardens. We will be helping to cleanup the gardens. Save the date!

Since 1919, Longmont Rotary has served this community through service projects such as winter coat drives, bell-ringing for the Salvation Army, etc.
