Club member, Maria Karagianis shared a few of her experiences from her journalism work at Boston Globe during the 70's. Some of those stories included; 1) the riots over integration and mandatory busing, 2) an assignment in South Africa, where she illegally entered the black township of Soweto, traveled with a black man and covered the apartheid situation and 3) a recent assignment to the Greek island of Lesbos, to report on the refugee problems, which were being completely covered up by the government. Maria also talked about the a learning center that was established (Discovering Justice), designed for the study of civics, law & justice. Maria was part of the Pulitzer Prize winning team from the Boston Globe for coverage of busing during desegregation in Boston. Maria now provides consulting strategy services for a non-profit.
