December 1 - 2 our club sponsored the 2023 Jim Church Classic Basketball Tournament at the Souderton Area High School. This event was established in 2012 by Rotarian Jim Church to support The Children's Tumor Foundation. There were approximately 600 spectators who came to cheer on this year's boys and girls teams.
Competing for the boy's trophy were Souderton, Upper Dublin, Dock Mennonite Acadamy, and Lansdale Catholic. Competing for the girls were Souderton, Council Rock South, Abington, and William Tennant. Souderton boys and girls made the finals but lost to this year's Jim Church Classic Champions Council Rock South (girls) and Upper Dublin (boys). The premier sponsor once again this year was QNB, with Living Branches and Weaver Reckner Reinhart also supporting the effort as sponsors along with a generous anonymous donation.
Special thanks to Kate Hoath and Richard Swartley for their assistance at the table all weekend, and a huge thank you to Dennis Stanton, Souderton Athletic Director, along with his staff and the SAHS Security Team. Once again this year, the referees all donated their time for the tournament in honor of their relationship with Jim Church and to support The Children's Tumor Foundation. We expect to be able to make a donation of between four and five thousand dollars to the Children's Tumor Foundation from the proceeds from this year's event.
