Smoky Hill Rotary's speaker this week was Kim Eggen, with Seakr Engineering. When Program Chair Mark Rank introduced her, he called her "Cinnamon Crumb and large coffee", her regular order at his store, My Favorite Muffin. Seakr builds avionics for satellites and other space applications. Some highlights of her presentation were:
  • Her company is a family owned business with 420 employees. 55% of the employees are electrical engineers. They have only a 4% turnover. It has completed 104 missions with a 100% success rate. All manufacturing is done here in Colorado.
  • Their products include solid state recorders for memory systems, processors, and avionics. Their first contract was with Lockheed Martin. Some of their equipment is on the International Space Station.
  • Due to the nature of their systems, manufacturing and assembly is done under a microscope.
  • Seekr has its own foundation dedicated to assisting families of service men and women killed or disabled while on active duty. They are currently support 8 families through college education funding for their children.
